Christopher Quartet
|
Christopher Quartet has a strong love for the epic narratives and storytelling melodies from the european classical music tradition, alongside having deep roots embedded in the american jazz tradition. Mixing american swing and spontaneity with Europes classical traditions like form, colours and composition. From one side of the ocean comes the electric guitar and drum set, from the other side the piano and double bass. The music is characterized by bandleader Iver Cardas’ upbringing in a family consisting of classical musicians, and his discovery of jazz in his teens.
Coming from a multidirectional musical background, Christopher Quartet brings a spectre of musical references, stretching from Miles Davis’ second great quintet, to Arnold Schönberg’s twelve-tone music, John Coltrane’s raw spirituality and the colourful interpretations from artists Martha Argerich, Hélène Grimaud and Isabelle Faust. The result is personal and strong, but also raffined and precise. Musicians: - Guitar: Iver Cardas - Piano: Philip Edwards Granly - Double Bass: Alf Høines - Drums: Elias Tafjord |
